Objective:
To remain gainfully employed in the workforce full-time for as long as possible until I can afford to retire. That goal is
a long way out of my reach.
Experience
Administration Officer NSW State Government Department of Commerce
March 1995 to present
Administration Officer responsible for receptionist and administration assistant. Leading
Hand to Building Maintenance Manager/Resource Manager, great delegator but a team player. Expected to know the
answer to all problems in the office (including blocked drains, broken photocopiers, unreliable phones, static in the overhead
music, lighting problems, dishevelled carpets etc etc) and condition of the gardens, watering systems and upkeep of the grounds
in general. A new responsibility is return to work co-ordinator and I recently completed a 2 day course for accreditation
with WorkCover.
Temporary Agencies Secretarial Assignments February 1994 to March 1995 Various assignments all over Sydney.
Some long-term, some short. Some good jobs, others - well best forgotten. Managed to learn new computer skills though,
did cross-over training on various programs and became very good at attending interviews and answering dumb questions from
silly people. Not a good form of employment for anyone with a mortgage - would not recommend it to anybody who stresses out
if they can't pay their bills.
Westfield Limited Shopping Centre Management 1980 - 1993 Merchants' Association Secretary 1980 - 1985
State Management Secretary 1985 - 1988 PA to National Marketing Manager 1988 - 1993 These were the
best years of my working life. Such fun, hard work, and good friends. I met a lot of celebrities during these years, worked
with the marketing team for 5 years at Westfield Shoppingtown Parramatta and have never had a job like it again. The years
as State Secretary were a hard slog as I worked for 5 busy state managers, the only secretarial/clerical person in the office
and I was the receptionist as well. With our flex time now and all the other so called extras to make our working life better
and hours shorter, things today are no better than they were then in Sydney. Everyone who is working is doing more than one
job for only one salary or wage and some are working 50 to 60 hours a week while many people are unemployed and could be utilised
to reduce the workloads on those employed (if life was real that would be how it should be). The PA position was
interesting, but extremely taxing. Long hours, long trip to and from work, never enough hours in the day to get the work
done. I worked one on one with the NMM (female) and that in itself was taxing as she could be very demanding and petty but
deep down she was a nice lady. She was away from the office frequently, either interstate or overseas so it was up to me
to keep things afloat for her while she was away and to keep in constant contact with her. Lots of responsibility which I
guess didn't do me any harm.
